The board and batten went over the gabel ends to protect the OSB board from the elements, and to provide a pretty finish. The end result does look great I think you'd agree, but it was a right pain putting up... especially since we were using stupid, pretty-looking round-headed nails which made you feel like you were in hammering primary school every time you tried to nail one
